Travelling Across the World to the Maldives During COVID-19

Greetings from your new staff members, Jacque, Emily, & Charli! We arrived in Naifaru a little over a month ago and have already fallen in love with the community here (including both the humans and the turtles!). We wanted to each share a bit about our journey here as well as what we’ve been up to since arriving. 🙂

Hawksbill hatchlings Release

We currently have three Hawksbill hatchlings in our centre ready for release! They were brought to us after being poached from the nest and kept as pets.

Events

I visited the beautiful island of Naifaru 1 week after my first-year medical school exams. It’s the perfect place for early hospital exposure and I fondly remember some of the cases I saw there as I progressed through medical school. I rotated through Orthopedics, General Surgery, OBSGYN and Pediatrics during my time there. Medicine in the morning and sun, sea, sand and sea turtles in the afternoon; no better way or place to learn medicine.

“No matter how far you have to travel to try it, this park is absolutely worth it! Thank you for making my vacation truly unforgettable. I enjoyed every moment of it!

Me and my friends appreciate your assistance with all the arrangements. Thank you so much!”

My time on Naifaru was an eye-opening experience I’ll never forget. Working so closely with these beautiful animals and helping them recover, was a dream come true for me.

I got to know some of the most welcoming and passionate people I’ve ever met, who taught me a lot and inspired me to get into marine conservation myself.

I loved snorkeling around the local reefs and travelling to uninhabited islands…the experience of a lifetime.

Turnschek, Marek
