Volunteer Programmes

Marine Conservation Programme

Operating from Atoll Marine Centre we rescue turtles from the illegal pet trade, rehabilitate and reintroduce them back to the wild. We have a coral gardening programme aiming to restore degraded reefs and conduct reef surveys to determine changes in reef health over time. We also conduct outreach within the community to raise awareness of marine issues and inspire action to better protect the local marine environment.

Community Development Programme

We offer volunteers the unique opportunity to work with local community members to develop projects and ideas for how to improve the quality of life for our community. Whether it’s constructing a new playground, or organizing waste awareness campaigns. Volunteers will be a central pillar in the community interacting with local people to improve our community in a variety of different ways.

Teaching Programme

We offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to teach children off all ages and experience the Maldivian education system. You will work with both local and international staff and be involved throughout the process of planning and teaching classes for a variety of subjects. From working at our schools you will immerse yourself into our community and work with other organizations/volunteers to organize community events.

Medical Placements Programme

This is a unique opportunity for medical students or experienced professionals to work alongside trained medical staff at the busiest hospital in the Lhaviyani Atoll. Through shadowing hospital staff, volunteers gain vital international experience working at the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital on Naifaru treating patients from all over the atoll.

Sports Programme

Sport has always been a great connector between communities. In the Maldives, volleyball and football are the most popular sports. Regular tournaments and competitions are organised to give the youth opportunity to be more active. You could get the chance to teach children sports in a variety of disciplines and play an important part in enriching the lives of a new generation.

We offer several long-term volunteering positions here at Atoll Volunteers. We need dedicated, open-minded and disciplined individuals who can organise, manage and generally run our activities – and at the same time keep a healthy balance between work and fun!
As we are a non-profit organisation, the positions are unpaid, but with food and accommodation provided – no fees are to be paid by you!
